Lake View Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Lake View Bereavement Centre, Crematorium and Burials website at http://www.lakeviewbereavementcentre.com. This website is run by East Cambridgeshire District Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. That means you should be able to:

How accessible is this website

We aim to meet the requirements of WCAG 2.2 AA and regularly review the website and its content against those standards. We know some parts of the website may not be fully accessible:

  • some online maps or embedded map features may not be fully accessible, so we provide essential location information in text where needed
  • we are checking WordPress, Divi 5 and third-party plug-in features to make sure they can be used with a keyboard, screen reader, speech recognition software and browser zoom

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

We are aware of a number of accessibility issues that may affect parts of the website. These issues are described below and are being reviewed and addressed where necessary. Our accessibility testing and ongoing reviews have highlighted the following areas where accessibility issues may occur. We are investigating and addressing these issues as part of our ongoing accessibility improvements.

The following accessibility issues have been identified through testing and are currently being reviewed or remediated:

  • some instances of text displayed over images or branded colour combinations may not consistently achieve the required colour contrast ratios. This may fail WCAG 2.2 Success Criteria 1.4.3 (Contrast Minimum), 1.4.11 (Non-text Contrast) and 1.4.5 (Images of Text)
  • some header and footer menu items may contain link structures that are not fully accessible to keyboard or assistive technology users. This may fail WCAG Success Criteria 2.1.1 (Keyboard) and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value)

The following areas are currently under review as part of our ongoing accessibility testing. We have not yet confirmed whether these issues affect all instances on the website:

  • empty links associated with calendar events may not provide an accessible name and may fail WCAG 2.4.4 (Link Purpose in Context) and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value)
  • touch targets, icons, accordions, sliders or image galleries that are too small, rely on dragging, or cannot be operated using a single pointer, this may fail WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.5.7 (Dragging Movements) and 2.5.8 (Target Size Minimum)
  • embedded media, images and uploaded documents that do not have suitable alternatives, captions, transcripts or accessible document structure, this may fail WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.1.1 (Non-text Content), 1.2.2 (Captions Prerecorded), 1.2.3 (Audio Description or Media Alternative) and 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships)
  • ARIA hidden elements in contact form and visual components, this may fail WCAG 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value) or WCAG 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships)
  • duplicate alternative text for repeated logo images may create unnecessary repetition for screen reader users, we are reviewing this against accessibility best practice and assistive technology usability guidance

Disproportionate burden

We do not currently make any claims of disproportionate burden for this website. If we later identify an issue that we believe would be a disproportionate burden to fix, we will complete and publish an assessment explaining the impact on users, the work needed, the cost and the benefits of fixing it.

Content not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Online maps and mapping services are exempt from the accessibility regulations, provided essential information is available in an accessible digital format for maps intended for navigational use. The Lake View Bereavement Centre, Crematorium and Burials website may include online maps to show nearby towns, points of reference and location information. We will provide the essential address, directions, parking and contact information in accessible text alongside any map.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We continue to improve the accessibility of the website. We do not rely on accessibility overlay plug-ins as a substitute for meeting WCAG 2.2 AA. Instead, we use accessibility checks to identify issues and then fix them in the website content, settings, theme templates or code.

We review key page templates and user journeys, including the home page, contact information, service information, forms, search, menus, accordions, galleries, embedded maps and downloadable documents.

Some areas of the website use white text over photographic header images and buttons styled in Lake View brand colours. We recognise that colour contrast can vary depending on the image, background, button state or device being used. Where these design elements are used, we check that the text and controls remain readable and usable. This may include using darker image overlays, placing text on solid or semi-solid panels, adjusting brand colour combinations, adding clear button borders and focus states, or using alternative accessible colour treatments where needed. Where there is a conflict between brand presentation and accessibility, accessibility takes priority.

We also check that the site works with keyboard navigation, visible focus, browser zoom at 400%, reflow on mobile and desktop, screen readers, speech recognition software, sufficient colour contrast, descriptive links, meaningful image alternatives and clear form labels and errors.

Any new PDF or Word documents published after 23 September 2018 will be checked for accessibility before publication. Where a document is not accessible, we will either fix it, provide an accessible HTML alternative, or offer the information in another accessible format on request.

We are aware of a reported issue regarding ARIA-hidden elements, belonging to WPForms' hidden anti-spam (honeypot) mechanism. These controls are intentionally excluded from the accessibility tree and are not user-facing form fields. No accessibility impact on keyboard, screen reader or speech recognition users has been identified during testing of the visible contact form.

Accessibility monitoring and reviews

We carry out accessibility reviews periodically and after significant website updates, content changes or platform upgrades. Formal accessibility testing is undertaken at least annually. These checks include a representative sample of pages, templates and functionality, as well as any new features or significant design changes.

We use a combination of automated checks, manual testing and assistive technology testing. Where accessibility issues are identified, we aim to assess them within 30 working days and prioritise fixes according to their impact on users.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 16 August 2026.

The website was tested on 16 August 2026 using a combination of automated accessibility tools and manual testing against a representative sample of pages and user journeys.

This statement will be reviewed within 12 months, or sooner if significant changes are made to the website.
