Lake View Bereavement Centre

Opening hours

Lake View Bereavement Centre grounds are open to visitors 365 days a year. ​Visitors are welcome to take gentle walks through our grounds, spend time in nature, or explore our burial and memorial options in a tranquil, rural setting.​​ Last entry is 30 minutes before gate closing; gates lock promptly with no after-hours access.​

The nearest local train station is Ely Railway Station, which is a mainline station.​

Parking

Free parking is available for up to 120 vehicles at Lake View. ​

We have several accessible parking bays located close to the main entrance and chapel for ease of access.​

There are a limited number of electric charging points.​

All vehicles are parked at the owner’s own risk. ​

All vehicles must adheare to the following. ​

Drive slowly keeping to the 10mph limit.
Keep to the main roadways.
Park in a way that does not inconvenience visitors or staff.

Vehicles must depart before closing as the gates will be locked promptly and it will not be possible to retrieve them until the following morning. No unauthorised vehicle may be left overnight within the premises.​

Funerals ​

No unauthorised vehicle is to be left in front of the Lake View Bereavement Centre Office or chapel and access to the service yard must be kept free at all times.​

If a funeral procession is to be led by any vehicle other than a motor-driven funeral hearse, permission should be obtained from Crematorium and Bereavement Service Manager to ensure this can be accommodated. This includes, but is not limited to, horse-drawn hearses, gun carriages and similar vehicles.

Accessibility

We have worked hard to ensure as many areas of Lake View are as accessible as possible. ​

We provide accessible parking close to the main pathways for ease of access. ​

Accessible toilets and baby changing facilities are available on site. We also have a Changing Places® toilet for people with complex care needs located next to the main chapel.​

The Lake View Bereavement Centre which consists of, the chapel, Tribute Terrace walkway, Snowdrop Lodge and communal memorial areas are all fully accessible.​

A wide, wheelchair friendly path leads down the meadow burial area.​

Owing to the nature of the site, some of the more remote pathways are not all fully accessible. ​

Dogs

Dogs are permitted within the grounds provided they are always kept on a short lead and under control.

Owners must ensure their dogs do not disturb or interfere with other visitors, burials, or memorials.

Dog fouling is not permitted anywhere on the site. Failure to remove your dog’s waste may result in enforcement action, including a fixed penalty notice or prosecution.

Only assistance dogs, such as guide dogs, are permitted inside the buildings, unless pre-agreed with the Crematorium and Bereavement Service Manager.

Dogs must remain on a lead and stay on footpaths. Please note that some areas of the grounds may have restricted access for dogs, as indicated by signage.

Respect

Lake View is a beautiful communal space for quiet reflection and remembrance of loved ones and we ask that visitors respect the peace, dignity and reverence of these facilities, acting with consideration for other users of the site.​

Please do not drop litter anywhere on site.

There are designated smoking areas avaiable on site.

No music audible to others is permitted to be played on site except as part of an authorised ceremony.

Children who are or appear to be under the age of 14 must be accompanied in the crematorium and memorial grounds by a responsible adult.

Please do not take photographs, video or sound recordings within the crematorium without first getting approval from the site manager.

Please do not unreasonably interrupt the duties of staff or contractors within the grounds, nor extend to them any gratuity.

Flowers and tributes

We encourage mourners and funeral directors to take tributes away after a service. ​Remaining tributes will be moved at the end of the working day to be displayed within the memorial grounds, generally for a minimum of 3 working days. After this time they will be assessed for disposal, taking into account natural decay, effects of weather and the activity of wildlife. Where possible, natural materials will be removed for repurposing or composting and other materials for recycling.​

No artificial flowers of any kind (including wreaths) are permitted in the grounds. An exception is made solely for Remembrance Day.

Cut flowers without wrappers or bindings may be left on site, but please do ensure no plastics, ribbons or wires are attached. Receptacles for flowers placed on or formed in the ground are not permitted.

Only memorials purchased directly from and installed by Lake View will be permitted. The placing of personalised memorabilia in the memorial grounds, including placed on or attached to any benches, is not allowed and any such items will be removed.

No glass or plastic ornamentations are permitted within the memorial grounds. Such items will be considered a safety or environmental hazard and immediately removed.

In line with our attention to being good stewards of the natural environment, Lake View does not permit the release of balloons, or floating lanterns.

Lake View has a structured planting maintenance programme, and so the private planting of trees, plants, shrubs and bulbs is not permitted

We accept no responsibility for tributes or other items left within the grounds, but reserve the right to remove, at any time and without notice, any flowers, plants or tributes that are deemed to have deteriorated, been damaged or become unsightly.

Wildlife at
Lake View

The lake is a County Wildlife Site and is managed to maintain its wildlife, woodlands and wildflowers. As a protected conservation area, fishing, swimming, boating and other water activities are not permitted.
