The lake

The lake sits at the heart of the grounds, a peaceful presence that changes with the seasons, offering a place for quiet reflection throughout the year. Softly edged by reeds and wild grasses, a place where water, light and landscape meet in harmony.

A place for reflection

The lake forms a beautiful part of the wider Lake View landscape, providing a peaceful setting for reflection and remembrance.

An ideal sanctuary for funeral services

The lake's natural surroundings offer families and visitors a connection to nature during visits to the bereavement centre and grounds.

Whether spending time with family and friends following a service, visiting a loved one's resting place, or returning for a quiet moment of reflection, the lakeside environment offers space to pause, remember, and reconnect with cherished memories.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy the lakeside setting throughout the year. Benches positioned around the grounds provide places to sit quietly and take in the views, while the network of pathways allows visitors to experience different aspects of the landscape and wildlife.

Every visit offers something different, a glimpse of a heron taking flight, the sound of reeds moving in the breeze, or the reflection of changing skies across the water. These simple moments of connection with nature help make Lake View a special place for remembrance, reflection, and celebrating the lives of those we hold dear.

Our lake is a haven for wildlife

Mallards, geese, moorhens, herons, muntjac and badgers are regular visitors, while beneath the quiet surface of the lake, rare pond plants, native fish and the renowned friendly carp that have lived here for generations thrive.

Walkways

Lake View invites visitors to gently meander and take in the peaceful surroundings.

With each step, you’ll explore a new aspect of the grounds as they are revealed through swaying birch trees, scented hawthorns and the dark, evergreen leaves of holm oaks.

Nature is gently allowed to lead here, with many areas intentionally left a little wilder to encourage native plants and wildlife to flourish naturally beside the lake.

Our site is built on a former quarry, where the beaches and sandy soil create a warm, dry microclimate perfect for supporting an abundance of wildlife and wildflowers that can’t thrive in richer soils.

Because these are natural environments, not all our walkways are fully accessible, and we recommend sturdy footwear when exploring our more remote pathways.

Spots for quiet reflection

Along our pathways you’ll find plenty of opportunities to pause, reflect, remember loved ones or simply enjoy the view of the lake.
